Book 1 Emperor's Bane
Tharen, member of the merchant/priest clan of Marekla, is limited by clan edict to using a staff for defense. When he is caught in a battle he keeps a sword that falls into his hands and is banned from his clan and must change his name to Tharek until he can return the sword to its owner. Unfortunately, the owner, Darm, a Janakan warrior is forbidden to take a sword without killing the man who possesses it. At an impasse, they join forces and set out on a series of adventures that bring them in conflict with Marnat, the corrupt emperor of Saadena .
Book 2 Tyrant of Zedekla
Tharek has inherited the Stone of Truth through his lineage from Irilik, first prophet of Okishdu and he has used it to free captives of Marnat, earning the enmity of the emperor. He is followed by Garvok,'Marnat's Hound' and seeks refuge in seclusion. But he is not destined to live a quiet life. Using the Stone of Truth and the Sword of the Wizard Smith, Tharek confronts the gangs that infest the coastal city of Zedekla.
Book 3 Ransom Refused
Intent on restoring the Sword of the Wizard Smith to his clan, Kagun, a Janakan warrior, sets out on a quest to defeat Tharek and regain the sword. He unwillingly takes on two companions, a bumptious younger warrior and an orphan boy. The focus of his quest changes to the rescue of Tharek's son and step-daughter from the priests of Orqu who seek them for sacrifice.
